Song#: 3
Album 17) Magic Children
Name of Song: The Shame Remains

Part One
A decision has been made,
We don’t want a little child,
There is a way to handle it,
But for us seems way too wild.
But we both decided to end its life,
What they call it now is abortion,
A justifying urge makes it seem alright,
But really the devil’s contortion.
A lingering thought starts growing,
That maybe we should reconcile,
To change our minds on ending the life
Of a defenseless innocent child.
But we both ignore our goodness,
Dreading what’s going to be done,
We know deep down it’s not correct
Like killing our daughter or son.
We sometimes regret having done it,
We wonder what it would’ve been like,
To love and cherish another like us,
But instead we ended its life.
This endless dread now haunts us,
Alcohol only works sometimes,
And the trouble we’ve had getting pregnant again,
So much harder to create another life.
It seems I’ll always be prisoner,
To this lingering regret that won’t leave,
Calming ourselves with drugs and sex,
Seems forgiveness was not meant to be.
Part Two
There is a way to redemption,
Although many will find it too hard,
Persistence and courage to face what you did,
Will demand you’re always on guard.
Integrity to self will resolve things,
Your “now I’m supposed to’s” should cease,
Facing your life and what you have done,
Confronting it piece by piece.
Trauma responds to how it got there,
And observing what actually occurred,
What you then did and how you felt,
Is all part of unraveling the blur.
As a mother you’re a spirit who’s deathless,
Your own memory of life lingers on,
Killing a child makes it hard on yourself,
And leaves you stuck thereon.
So take your time to befriend you,
It can be interesting to know,
You’ve always gotta start somewhere,
Though starting can sometimes be slow.
There is a way to redemption,
Although many will find it too hard,
Persistence and courage to face what you did,
Will demand you’re always on guard.
Integrity to self will resolve things,
Your “now I’m supposed to’s” should cease,
Facing your life and what you have done,
Confronting it piece by piece.
Trauma responds to how it got there,
And observing what actually occurred,
What you then did and how you felt,
Is all part of unraveling the blur.
