I don’t care if they start another war there,
Just as long as it doesn’t ever get near me,
And I don’t care if they print trillions more money,
Just as long as nothing changes and I’m let be.
I don’t care if they lie and cheat and steal things,
Just as long as they don’t ever do it with me,
I don’t care if my neighbors beat their children,
Just as long as I don’t hear or ever see.
I don’t care if all those people don’t have a job now,
Just as long as I can still live the way I choose,
I don’t care if they poison the food and water,
Just as long as I have enough money to buy my booze.
I don’t care if I am tired and losing interest,
Just as long as I can watch what’s on TV,
I don’t care if I have lost my love for people,
After all they are all trapped like you and me.
But now I’m dying and need some help, I feel I deserve it,
I have a right to be given help until I die,
What if no one knows how to ease my intolerable burden,
The scary thought that it will happen all over again.
What if I cared about the world and the people in it,
What if I cared about the animals, plants and trees,
What if I cared about the way the planet’s acting,
What if I begin to love myself and try to be.
Caring is an effort to live for others,
Caring is a thrust before we love,
Caring is a wondrous feel for everyone,
Without caring we will die a miserable death.
