Song#: 11

Album
Name of Song: Been a long time since honesty

It’s been a long time since honesty,
Was a common way of life,
Although people hope it still remains,
Even after endless strife.

It takes an inner vigil,
To keep honesty alive,
Without it, our conscience dies,
Amongst all those other pasts.

Words that seem to promise hope,
Are a favorite for those who lead,
When we demand they do what said,
We are warned we still can bleed.

When will these laws apply to most us,
Instead of the few that already did the crimes,
Why should we live as though criminals,
When most of us don’t even have that past.

Honest people should be the most protected,
By not lumping that small percentage in with the rest,
If 80 percent try to live by the rules,
Then why should we suffer from the other 20 percent.

It may seem like a small point to harp on,
But imagine if that 20 percent did not run our lives,
By shallow lawmakers latching on to all that conflict,
And instead separated them off and left them by.

It makes no sense to pass a law that most aren’t breaking,
It makes no sense to totally focus on all the crime,
Because if most of us simply are not doing that,
Then that stupid agenda is the real crime that doesn’t rhyme.

It makes no sense to pass a law that most aren’t breaking,
It makes no sense to totally focus on all the crime,
Because if most of us simply are not doing that,
Then that stupid agenda is the real crime that doesn’t rhyme.
